Abstract
Career is not just a choice of profession; it is a multidimensional process shaped by the roles, goals and values that the individual assumes throughout his life. For this reason, career is considered as a developmental process and it is emphasized that it should be supported from childhood. Although this process involves different dynamics for each child, it needs to be handled in a more careful and planned manner for specially talented children. In this direction, the Future Awareness Psychoeducation Program was developed in order to support the career development processes of specially talented students at primary school level who receive education at Science and Art Centers (BİLSEM). The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of this program on the career development of primary school students attending BİLSEM. The research was designed in a quasi-experimental design with experimental and control groups. The participants of the research consist of 3rd and 4th grade students attending a BİLSEM in Adana. “Career Development Scale for Children” was used as a data collection tool. Findings revealed that the Future Awareness Psychoeducation Program had positive effects on the career development of primary school students and that this effect continued throughout the process.
