Abstract

Word-of-mouth marketing (WOMM) is a natural promotion process that occurs when consumers share their own experiences and opinions about a product, service or brand with people around them. Purchase intention is the willingness of an individual to purchase a certain product or service and the tendency they show in this direction. Effective communication is the transfer of thoughts, feelings and information in a clear, concise and appropriate way that the other party can understand. WOMM, purchase intention and effective communication are important marketing elements that complement each other. This study investigates how WOMM affects purchase intention and the role of effective communication in this effect. The research model was created based on Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behavior. 502 consumers determined by the convenience sampling method in Istanbul were reached and SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 24.0 and structural equation modeling were used to analyze the data obtained from these consumers. The research results reveal that effective communication strategies in the digitalized marketing environment increase the impact of WOMM and play a critical role in understanding consumer behavior. In this context, it can be said that messages that are reliable, clear and focused on establishing an emotional bond strengthen consumers' purchase intentions. It also offers important implications for marketing professionals in developing effective communication-based WOMM strategies.
