Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between smartphone addiction and levels of postural habits and postural awareness among individuals participating in recreational activities. The sample of the study, which employed a relational survey model within the scope of quantitative research methods, consisted of a total of 582 individuals aged between 18 and 55 who participated in recreational activities. The Postural Habits and Awareness Scale and the Smartphone Addiction Scale were used during the data collection process. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis. The mean age of the participants was determined as 27.8±8.4 years, The mean total score of smartphone addiction was calculated as 114.2±21.7, the postural habits score as 25.6±4.5, the postural awareness score as 42.8±6.8, and the total score of the Postural habits and Awareness scale as 68.4±12.1. The average weekly recreational activity frequency was found to be 3.1±1.2 days, and the total weekly activity duration was 4.2±2.3 hours. Correlation analyses showed statistically significant negative relationships between smartphone addiction and postural habits (r=-0.410, p<0.001), postural awareness (r=-0.454, p<0.001), recreational activity frequency (r=-0.423, p<0.001), and recreational activity duration (r=-0.437, p<0.001). Comparisons based on types of recreational activities indicated that individuals participating in activities involving physical engagement had lower smartphone addiction scores and higher postural awareness and postural habit scores (p<0.05). These findings suggest that regular participation in recreational activities is associated with lower levels of digital addiction behaviors and higher levels of bodily awareness.
