Abstract
The rapid growth of mediated sport content consumption has increased the need for valid and reliable instruments to explain individuals’ motivational drivers in different cultural contexts. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to adapt the Motivation Scale for Mediated Sport Consumption (MSMSC) into Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties. The research group consisted of 507 participants living in Türkiye who actively follow mediated sport content. Following the permission process, the scale was translated using a translation–back translation method, reviewed by experts, and pilot-tested to ensure linguistic and cultural appropriateness. Construct validity was examined through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses conducted on two randomly split subsamples. The analyses supported a five-factor structure consisting of Programming, Ownership, Secure-Convenient Sociability, Emotional Hedge and Team Identification. Reliability results indicated acceptable internal consistency, with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients ranging between 0.821 and 0.921 across factors. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the Turkish version of the MSMSC is a valid and reliable measurement instrument for assessing motivations related to mediated sport consumption. This scale may contribute to future research by enabling a more comprehensive understanding of sport consumption behaviors in Türkiye and by providing a standardized instrument for cross-cultural comparisons.
