Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between physical education and sports teachers’ metacognitive awareness, decision-making styles, and self-efficacy perceptions in terms of gender, professional seniority, and type of institution. A descriptive survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was employed. The study group consisted of 142 volunteer physical education and sports teachers, including 67 females and 75 males, selected through convenience sampling. Percentage and frequency analyses, independent-samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. The findings indicated that physical education and sports teachers had high levels of metacognitive awareness (x̄= 4,04), teacher self-efficacy perceptions (x̄=7,60), and vigilant decision-making style scores (x̄=1,61). The correlation analysis revealed a weak, positive, and statistically significant relationship between metacognitive awareness and teacher self-efficacy perceptions (r =0,276; p<0,001). However, no statistically significant relationship was found between metacognitive awareness and decision-making styles or between self-efficacy perceptions and decision-making styles. Overall, the findings indicated that higher levels of metacognitive awareness were associated with higher levels of teacher self-efficacy, whereas no significant relationship was found between metacognitive awareness and decision-making styles. These findings suggest that metacognitive awareness is an important factor supporting teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs.
