Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate the Serious Leisure Sports Volunteering Scale (SLSVS) to measure the psychological and structural dimensions of sustainable sports volunteering within the framework of the Serious Leisure Perspective (SLP). A four-stage research design was implemented, comprising qualitative focus groups (N = 10) for item generation, exploratory factor analysis (EFA; ) for structural identification, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA; N = 304) for model testing, and criterion-related validity analysis ( ). Data were collected using a5-point Likert-type response formatranging from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree). Construct validity analyses yielded a16-item, 4-dimensional structurecomprisingDevotion,Social Visibility,Career, andSense of Duty. The confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated robust structural model fit indices ( , , , , , , , ). The strong correlation results between the Obligation to Volunteer as Commitment Scale and the Obligation to Volunteer as Duty Scale confirmed the convergent validity of the measurement tool. Consequently, the SLSVS offers a valid, reliable, and parsimonious measurement tool for scholars and sports managers to assess long-term volunteer commitment and identity retention.
