An investigation of Zeki Ökten’s movie Boş Ver Arkadaş (1974) in the context of image-audio-text centered approach
Abstract
This research presents a roadmap by examining the relationship between folklore and cinema in the context of image-centered, sound-centered and text-centered approaches. Cinema, which plays a very important role in every phase of human life and in the transmission of culture, reflects its era with both the creation process and the production phase. Cinema, one of the art and largest industries of our age, has a close bond with the past as an environment where the needs of remembering and telling are realized. Cinema and society are phenomena that cannot be considered separately from each other. While cinema aims to entertain, it also interacts with society. As a matter of fact, cinema is a tool and art that can convey many individual or social messages to its audience. In this study; The 1974 movie Boş Ver Arkadaş, directed by Zeki Ökten, was examined based on image, sound and text. The purpose of the study; To identify the folklore elements in the movie in 1974, when the movie was released, to give information about the social structure of the period, to examine the music used in the film in the context of folklore-cinema relationship and to explain its connection with the subtext from which the film is adapted. While carrying out this study, Ahmet Özgür Güvenç’s book Folklore and Cinema, which is a first in folklore-centered cinema film analysis, was used. The analysis techniques and approaches mentioned in the book were applied to the film.
