Abstract
Incidental teaching method is an evidence-based teaching method that aims to improve students’ academic and social skills by increasing their learning opportunities in their natural environments. The aim of this study is to analyse single-subject studies on incidental teaching for students with special needs conducted in Türkiye according to different variables. Evaluating how incidental teaching is addressed in postgraduate theses and academic articles can fill an important gap in literature. Systematic review method was used in the research. Google academic search engine, Council of Higher Education Thesis Center (YÖKTEZ), Dergipark, ERIC databases were used in the literature search process. The keywords used in the search were “fırsat öğretimi”, “incidental teaching”, “fırsat öğretimi and tek denekli araştırmalar”, ‘incidental teaching and single subject studies”. As a result of the research, 17 theses and 3 articles were found. However, 11 studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were analysed. The data were analysed using descriptive analysis techniques. When we look at the number of studies according to years, it is noticeable that there is not a balanced distribution. In the context of Türkiye, it provided data that will shape the future of the field in a way that will support the integration of opportunity teaching into early intervention programmes in children with ASD, require the encouragement of qualified studies at the doctoral level, and require standard reporting of social validity and generalisation data. In the future, more studies should be conducted on various age groups and disadvantaged groups.
