Aims & Scope

The Journal of Health, Rehabilitation and Sport Science (JHRSS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing knowledge at the intersection of human health, clinical rehabilitation, and sport/exercise science. Our mission is to foster multidisciplinary collaboration and translational research that bridges the gap between laboratory science, clinical practice, and real-world performance.

We welcome high-quality original research, comprehensive reviews, case studies, and methodological innovations that address the full spectrum of physical activity, injury, disease, and recovery across the lifespan. We particularly value contributions that integrate motor behavior principles, including motor control, motor learning, and motor development, with health, rehabilitation, and sport performance.

Core Subject Areas

JHRSS invites submissions across, but not limited to, the following interconnected domains:

1. Health Sciences

  • Physical activity and public health promotion
  • Exercise as medicine for chronic disease prevention and management (e.g., cardiovascular, metabolic, oncological)
  • Lifestyle interventions and behavioural change
  • Occupational health and ergonomics
  • Pediatric and geriatric health through physical activity
  • Health equity and access to exercise programmes
  • Motor development across the lifespan and its impact on health outcomes

2. Rehabilitation Sciences

  • Musculoskeletal and sports injury prevention, assessment, and treatment
  • Post-surgical and post-traumatic rehabilitation protocols
  • Neurological rehabilitation (e.g., stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease)
  • Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and exercise therapy interventions
  • Pain management and functional recovery
  • Assistive technology and adaptive physical activity for disability populations
  • Motor control and motor learning in retraining movement patterns after injury or disease
  • Gait analysis and postural control in clinical populations

3. Sport Science

  • Exercise physiology and metabolic responses to training
  • Sports biomechanics and motor control
  • Sports nutrition and supplementation
  • Sport psychology, mental health, and athlete well-being
  • Talent identification, coaching science, and performance analysis
  • Strength and conditioning, periodisation, and load management
  • Team sports, individual sports, and paralympic sport science
  • Motor learning and skill acquisition in sport performance
  • Neuromuscular control and coordination in athletic movements
  • Developmental motor behavior and long-term athlete development

Multidisciplinary Emphasis

  • JHRSS particularly encourages submissions that integrate two or more of these domains. Examples include:
  • Exercise interventions for osteoarthritis (Health + Rehabilitation)
  • Return-to-sport protocols after ACL reconstruction (Rehabilitation + Sport Science)
  • Physical activity programmes to manage type 2 diabetes in older adults (Health + Exercise Physiology)
  • Psychological resilience and injury recovery in elite athletes (Sport Psychology + Rehabilitation)
  • Motor learning strategies for gait retraining in stroke survivors (Rehabilitation + Motor Behavior)
  • Postural control training to reduce fall risk in older adults (Health + Motor Behavior)
  • Skill acquisition and decision-making in team sports (Sport Science + Motor Learning)
