Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate contemporary approaches to football training science from a multidimensional perspective. This article is a descriptive systematic literature review based on national and international studies published between 2010 and 2025. Football is a complex phenomenon that requires consideration not only of technical and tactical aspects but also of physical, psychological, and technological dimensions. Findings indicate that small-sided games (SSG) enhance technical and tactical skills, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) improves cardiorespiratory capacity, and plyometric exercises support speed and agility. Periodization practices help balance training load and recovery, while tactical periodization includes mental as well as physical preparation. GPS-based tracking systems, video analysis, and artificial intelligence–supported tools enable data-driven planning of training sessions. Motivation, mental resilience, and flow experience emerge as key psychological components influencing football performance. In conclusion, football training should incorporate not only physiological parameters but also psychological and technological aspects. This integrated approach offers an up-to-date framework for coaches and sports scientists.
