Abstract
Lower extremity biomechanics is one of the critical elements determining sports performance; even small angular differences in this structure can either increase an athlete’s performance or significantly raise the risk of injury. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between changes in high Q-angle values and lower extremity functional performance by identifying the factors causing these changes. A total of 199 volunteer athletes, including 99 females and 100 males aged between 18 and 27 years who have been actively participating in sports for at least 10 years, participated in the study. At the beginning of the study, a 6-item demographic questionnaire developed by the researcher was administered to all athletes. Subsequently, participants were subjected to functional performance tests including the single-step hop test, triple-step hop test, crossover hop test, triple-step hop test to the medial side, medial rotation hop test, vertical jump test with hands on the waist, and vertical jump test with hands overhead. Q-angle measurement was performed using a photographic method after informing the participants about the test protocols, and the measurements were recorded using the Kinovea 0.8 video motion analysis software. Significant results were found in all parameters when performance measurement parameters were compared according to gender (p < 0.05). The effect of the Q-angle on performance measurement parameters was found to be significant (p < 0.05). As a result, when the Q-angle was associated with lower extremity functional performance tests, it was determined that performance increased as the Q-angle decreased. As a result, when performance measurement parameters and the participants’ Q-angle values were compared, a significant difference in Q-angle values was observed.
