Abstract

Performance parameters are fundamental components of sport sciences, with aerobic power, anaerobic power, and maximal oxygen consumption (MaxVO₂) widely recognized as key indicators of athletic capacity. Field-based tests used for talent identification and athlete selection often rely on these metrics. To examine scientific developments in this area, this study conducted a detailed bibliometric analysis using data retrieved from the Web of Science database and processed through the Biblioshiny package (RStudio). The analysis covered publications from 1980 to 2023 focusing on these three performance parameters. Findings show that research output fluctuated periodically over the 43-year period. After filtering, a total of 1,386 publications from 63 countries—mainly the United States, Canada, and Brazil—were included. Bibliometric visualization techniques were used to identify the most productive countries, influential institutions, and frequently used author keywords. The disciplinary distribution of the studies and collaboration networks contributing to the field were also mapped. Overall, the results highlight the intellectual structure and evolving research patterns associated with aerobic power, anaerobic power, and MaxVO₂ within sport sciences.
