Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the sportsmanship orientations and quality of life levels of individuals engaged in sports at different levels and to examine whether these variables differ according to various demographic factors. The research was conducted with a total of 464 licensed athletes participating in sports activities in Afyon province and national team camps. The WHOQOL-BREF Quality of Life Scale and the Sportsmanship Scale were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using independent samples t-tests and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). According to the results, sportsmanship levels showed significant differences based on gender, age, maternal status, level of sports participation, sports branch, and income obtained from sports. Female athletes demonstrated higher sportsmanship levels than male athletes. It was found that sportsmanship behaviors decreased with increasing age, while younger athletes exhibited higher sportsmanship tendencies. National-level athletes and those participating in certain sports branches (such as football and basketball) displayed higher sportsmanship levels. In contrast, quality of life levels did not differ significantly according to any of the examined demographic variables. The findings indicate that sportsmanship is more closely associated with ethical, psychosocial, and experiential factors, whereas quality of life exhibits a more stable structure in comparison. The study highlights that the relationship between sportsmanship and quality of life should be addressed from a multidimensional perspective.
