Digital content movie sites were scanned using the document analysis method. The data obtained in the scan were separated according to qualitative and quantitative content. The obtained data were given according to percentage and frequency distribution. In this study, sports films released between 1947-2024 were examined in terms of country, IMDb score, year of release and branch. There are a total of 300 films in the data set, and these films vary in terms of different branches and countries. According to the results of the research, a significant increase is observed in the distribution of films according to year intervals. It has the highest rate with 35.56% between 2013-2024, and it is seen that the popularity of sports-themed films has increased significantly during this period. In the analysis conducted on a country basis, it was seen that the USA was by far the most dominant country with 48.01% of the total films. India ranks second with 7.28%, and Turkey ranks third with 5.63%. Approximately half of the films are from the United States, while the remaining half show a wide geographic diversity. According to this data, boxing stands out as the most dominant theme, accounting for 14.85% of the total films. Football follows closely behind at 14.19%. Basketball comes in third at 7.59%, demonstrating the significant presence of sports in cinema. Overall, this dataset not only reflects the popularity of specific sports but also highlights the rich diversity of athletic endeavors across cultures and disciplines.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences https://rrpubs.com/index.php/rol/article/view/461 Organizational myopia in the framework of leadership orientations: A study of sports managers 2025-03-25T20:38:01+03:00 Senay Sule Yurtdas suleyrts@gmail.com Savas Duman savas.duman@adu.edu.tr
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the leadership orientations of sports managers and organizational myopia. The study involved 178 sports managers working in sports clubs affiliated with the Türkiye Aydın Amateur Sports Clubs Federation. The data collection tools included a demographic questionnaire covering the sports managers' age, sports background, coaching experience, and management experience, as well as the Leadership Orientation Scale and the Organizational Myopia Scale. The normality assumptions of the data were assessed by examining the skewness and kurtosis values, which confirmed the normal distribution. Independent samples t-tests, Pearson correlation analysis, and Spearman correlation analysis (for examining the relationship between continuous and ordinal variables under the assumption of non-normal distribution of ordinal variables) were employed. The study found a negative relationship between sports managers' age and years of experience (in sports, coaching, and management) and organizational myopia. It was also discovered that sports managers with sports and coaching experience exhibited lower structural leadership orientations, but higher political and symbolic leadership orientations. Additionally, the levels of organizational myopia in sports managers showed a positive relationship with structural leadership orientation and a negative relationship with human resources, political, and symbolic leadership orientations. In conclusion, the structural approach tends to increase organizational myopia, while human resources, approaches promoting reconciliation, and those reflecting team spirit contribute to the reduction of organizational myopia and support long-term sustainability.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences https://rrpubs.com/index.php/rol/article/view/468 Exercise addiction: An examination on gym members 2025-03-25T20:37:58+03:00 Alev Kizilkan alev.b.arslan@hotmail.com Cansel Arslanoglu canseloglu@sinop.edu.tr
The aim of the study was to examine the exercise addiction levels of individuals who regularly go to the gym. Exercise addiction can cause a positive situation to turn into a negative situation if a healthy exercise habit is taken to extremes. For this reason, studies are important that examine the exercise addiction levels of individuals who exercise regularly. The sample of the study consists of 422 volunteer individuals (179 Female, 243 Male) registered to gyms in the city center of Çorum in Türkiye. The “Personal Information Form” and “Exercise Addiction Scale” (EAS) were applied to the participants and the obtained data were analyzed with SPSS 21. The normality distribution of the data was examined with the Shapiro Wilk test and it was determined that the data showed a normal distribution. T-Test, and One Way ANOVA Post Hoc LSD test were used in comparisons between groups (p<0.05). It was determined that there has been statistically significant differences in all sub-dimensions of exercise addiction according to gender, family income status, duration of gym visits, regular exercise status and marital status (p<0.05). As a result, it has been determined that individuals who regularly go to the gym are in the dependent group in terms of all measured variables, and women have higher exercise addiction than men. It has been also determined that individuals with an income over 6000 TL had higher exercise addiction than individuals with lower income, and that exercise addiction increased as educational status increased. In addition to the results, it has been observed that those who both went to gyms for 1-2 years and married individuals who exercise regularly had higher exercise addiction. In line with these results, it can be said that gender, marital status, income level, regular exercise and time spent in the gym affect exercise addiction.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences https://rrpubs.com/index.php/rol/article/view/480 Examining the relationship between team identification levels of university students who are team supporters and their attitudes towards team sponsors and their perceptions of causality 2025-03-25T20:37:55+03:00 Huseyin Mete Gundogdu mete.gundogdu@bilecik.edu.tr Betul Altinok betul.altinok@dpu.edu.tr Cetin Ozdilek cetin.ozdilek@dpu.edu.tr
The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between team identification levels of university students who are team supporters and their attitudes towards team sponsors and their perceptions of causality. The method of the research is “Correlational Research” and according to the results of this research, the existing situations were determined and the relationship and prediction level between these situations were determined and interpreted. The phenomenology design was used in qualitative research methods, and criterion sampling and snowball sampling methods from the purposeful sampling method were used to determine the participants. In this context, the criterion of being a national athlete in one of the branches of Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Judo, Canoeing, Table Tennis, and Swimming, in which Turkey was a national athlete in the 2016 Rio Olympics, was sought in the participants who will take part in the research. Two hundred-eight national athletes in 9 sports branches constituted the research group. In the study, a semi-structured interview form was used to determine the metaphorical perceptions of the athletes. Athletes completed the statement on the form, "A devshirme athlete is like…..… because….." In addition, to deepen the athletes' perceptions, five multiple-choice questions were prepared, including four questions about ‘The positive and negative effects of naturalized athletes on the branch and career’ and one question about ‘The continuity of the naturalized athletes system’. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis, and questionnaire data were analyzed using percentage and frequency methods. According to the findings, national athletes produced 153 metaphors in 25 different categories about naturalized athletes. National athletes developed metaphors in the negative categories of ‘Being Money-Oriented,’ ‘Running to Easy,’ and ‘Negative Impact on Domestic Athletes’ and the favorable categories of ‘Valuable,’ ‘Support,’ and ‘Locomotive’. As a result, in this study, it can be said that there is a generally negative perception of the national athletes towards naturalized athletes and that the naturalized athlete system is a tool used by sports managers to camouflage their failures in order to achieve short-term success and that national athletes perceive the naturalized athlete system as an obstacle to long-term sportive development.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences https://rrpubs.com/index.php/rol/article/view/513 Examining the attitudes of athletes towards healthy nutrition and their psychological well-being levels 2025-03-25T20:37:45+03:00 Sema Arslan Kabasakal sema.kabasakal@yalova.edu.tr
The aim of this study is to examine the healthy nutrition attitudes and psychological well-being levels of athletes within the framework of various variables and to reveal the relationship between the two factors. Participant Evaluation Form, Attitude Scale Towards Healthy Nutrition, Psychological Well-being Scale were applied to the participants. Descriptive statistics, Independent Sample T Test, and Pearson Correlation Analysis were used in the analysis of the data. In the study, it was determined that healthy nutrition attitudes and psychological well-being levels did not differ statistically according to the gender and branches of the participants (p<0.05). Another finding of the study is that there is a moderate positive relationship between healthy nutrition attitudes and psychological well-being of athletes regardless of gender and branch (p<0.001). As a result of the study, it can be concluded that athletes' attitudes towards healthy nutrition and their psychological health are related, and this does not change according to branch and gender. However, concerns have been raised about the quality of PE instruction in primary education due to the challenges faced by classroom teachers. To address this issue, this study explored the views of educators on the effectiveness of PEaG courses in primary education. A descriptive qualitative research design with purposive sampling strategies was employed. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted using a questionnaire containing three open-ended questions. Three overarching themes emerged from the data: (1) the challenges and conveniences faced by classroom teachers, (2) the educational value of PEaG, and (3) the urgent need for PEaG specialists. The findings revealed that classroom teachers can develop stronger relationships with students through PEaG classes. However, they often lack the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver effective PEaG instruction. As a result, the findings indicated that PEaG in primary education should be delivered by PEaG specialists rather than classroom teachers.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences https://rrpubs.com/index.php/rol/article/view/527 The transfer and migration of young footballers: A journey of hope or labour exploitation 2025-03-25T20:37:38+03:00 Mustafa Demir mustafabii@yahoo.com Muazzez Sasmaz Atacocugu matacocugu@marmara.edu.tr Okan Kilickaya okilickaya@gelisim.edu.tr
In the contemporary football environment, the transfer processes of young players have come to the fore as a matter of considerable concern. Within this context, the challenges faced by players during transfers are shaped by a tension between a “journey of hope” and “labor exploitation.” This study aims to explore this phenomenon by examining the transfer processes of footballers through the lens of these two concepts. The primary objective of the present study is to ascertain whether the transfer journeys of young players constitute a pathway to opportunity or a form of labour exploitation. To this end, the processes will be examined within a socio-economic framework. The study will particularly examine the transfer trajectories of African footballers to European leagues, assessing the economic, social, and cultural dynamics of football migration. The transfer data from 1995 to 2024 were collected from the website Transfermarkt.de and analysed using descriptive statistical methods. A quantitative research design was employed, and the transfer data were categorised and analysed based on transfer fees, player nationality, and the leagues involved. The findings reveal that African players are often transferred to Europe at low costs or on free transfers, which creates a significant economic advantage for the major European leagues. A review of the extant literature further illuminates the dual nature of the transfer process, which, on the one hand, reflects labour exploitation and, on the other, embodies the pursuit of dreams, thus characterising a “journey of hope.” The study’s conclusions underscore the deleterious consequences of prevailing transfer practices and put forward policy recommendations that seek to remedy these issues. It is asserted that local leagues should be rendered more appealing, salary enhancements should be guaranteed, and that UEFA and FIFA should implement effective regulations to restrict international transfers of young players. Furthermore, it is contended that player recruitment processes should not be predicated exclusively on economic criteria, but should also take into account socio-historical dynamics. The call for further research in this domain is made to enhance comprehension and address the intricacies inherent in these matters.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences https://rrpubs.com/index.php/rol/article/view/537 Recreational swimming and infectious disease risks in young adults: An analysis of awareness and preventive measures 2025-03-25T20:37:34+03:00 Yusuf Gozacik yusuf.gozacik@dicle.edu.tr
This study aimed to examine the risk awareness of infectious diseases and protective behaviors among young adults engaged in recreational swimming, considering various variables. A relational survey method was employed, and data were collected from 182 individuals (79 women, 103 men) using a demographic information form and the Infectious Diseases Risk Awareness and Protection Scale. Within the scope of data analysis, frequency and percentage distributions were examined, and after the normality assumptions were met, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Post-Hoc tests and Pearson Correlation analysis were applied. Participants’ mean age (years) was 28.46±4.23, height (cm) 172.82±8.70, body weight (kg) 71.46±13.24, and BMI 23.76±2.90. Significant differences were observed in total and subscale scores based on gender, while some subscales varied according to marital status, smoking habits, chronic diseases, and educational background (p<0.05). Different levels and directional relationships were found between demographic characteristics and scale scores. The findings indicated that awareness and protective behaviors differed by gender, marital status, education level, smoking habits, chronic diseases, and physical characteristics, with women and individuals with higher education levels scoring higher. Additionally, a negative correlation was identified between physical characteristics and awareness levels. In this context, it was concluded that educational programs should be organized to enhance awareness of infectious disease risks and that strategies should be implemented to improve protective behaviors.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences https://rrpubs.com/index.php/rol/article/view/591 Investigation of life quality and life satisfaction levels of instructors working in youth centers 2025-03-25T20:37:31+03:00 Mustafa Onder Sekeroglu mo.sekeroglu@alparslan.edu.tr Sinan Ozbey sinan_ozbey@hotmail.com
This study aims to examine the quality of life and life satisfaction levels of trainers working in youth and sports centers in the province of Van. A high quality of life among sports trainers working in youth centers may enhance their professional motivation and, in turn, improve the quality of services provided to young individuals. The trainers’ physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, and perceptions of economic security directly influence their overall quality of life and job satisfaction. A total of 101 trainers working voluntarily at the Van Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports and its district branches participated in the study. The research was conducted using the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale - Short Form (WHOQOL-BREF) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, and the Mann-Whitney U test and Pearson correlation test were applied. The findings reveal that female trainers have a significantly higher perception of economic quality compared to their male counterparts. Furthermore, as economic security and overall quality of life increase, life satisfaction also rises. Psychological well-being, social support, and environmental conditions are important factors that determine trainers’ life satisfaction. The results of the study indicate a need for supportive policies aimed at enhancing trainers’ professional satisfaction. Social support programs and economic incentives are recommended to improve both physical and psychological well-being.
2025-03-25T00:00:00+03:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Journal of ROL Sport Sciences
