PEPEE IN TERMS OF FUNCTION OF THE LANGUAGE AND VOCABULARY

Abstract

Aim of this study is determine certain functions of the language in Pepee and examine it in terms of its vocabulary. As this study aims to examine Pepee in terms of the function of language and vocabulary it is a qualitative research. Methods of the study is document analysis. In the study 20 episodes of Pepee which were broadcasted in TRT Child Channel between 2012 and 2013, and other 20 episodes of the same cartoon which were broadcasted in Planet Child Channel between 2014 and 2016 were watched. Episodes were watched independently by the researchers. Descriptive analyses were used in this process. In Pepee cartoon phatic and conative functions of the language are dominant. It can be inferred that messages in Pepee are used accurately and appropriately. Also, high frequency of the use of vocabulary factors such as idiom, proverb and routine and explanations and definitions about language and language elements by using metalanguage function make this cartoon important.
