This study addresses a significant gap in the literature by examining the relationships between narcissism, religious attitudes, and cognitive flexibility in an integrative manner; thereby clarifying the interaction between personality traits, belief systems, and cognitive processes, and contributing both to theoretical knowledge and mental health practices. The sample consisted of 407 participants (163 males, 244 females). Data were collected using the Brief Five-Factor Narcissism Inventory, the Ok Religious Attitude Scale, and the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory, and analyzed through correlation and regression methods. Results showed that grandiose narcissism positively predicted cognitive flexibility (β = 0.61, p <0.001), whereas vulnerable narcissism negatively predicted it (β = –0.44, p = .012). Religious attitudes did not significantly predict cognitive flexibility (β = 0.02, p = 0.814). The findings suggest that traits associated with grandiose narcissism—such as confidence and a sense of leadership—may enhance flexible thinking, while features of vulnerable narcissism—like shame and feelings of worthlessness—may inhibit it. Overall, the study highlights that personality characteristics might play a more prominent role than religious orientation in influencing an individual’s capacity for cognitive flexibility.
