Abstract

In this research, we aimed to examine the archetypes in Ingeborg Bachmann's “Malina” from Jung’s perspective, with the method of “archetypal literary criticism”. As we carried out the analysis in line with archetypal criticism, first we tried to define Jung’s concept “collective unconscious” and also pointed out the contribution of archetypal criticism to interpretation of literary works. Thereinafter, by studying the work “Malina” about the personality of a woman divided into two, we tried to bring the archetypal symbols to light and to interpret them from Jung’s perspective. In consequence of this study, we reached the conclusion that the work “Malina”, reflecting the journey of a female protagonist into her subconscious, is archetypically woven.
