Abstract

Urbanisation process, quite slow before 1950, gained momentum due to migrations from rural regions to cities following that year. Considering the period till 1980’s, it can be seen that urban population increase is very high in industrial cities. On the other hand a new directing factor emerged for urbanization and this is tourism. The tourism sectors gaining importance in Turkey, settlements having tourism petential become attraction tourism center rapidly and entered urbanization period. Tourism based urbanizations, shows a more regional acording to industry based urbanizations. The purpose of this study is to examine the urbanization in Milas, which offers a different speciality then the torism based urbanizations in Turkey, in a historical process, to put forth the differences and to dedect the reasons.
