Abstract

West has began to experience to exploration of the new worlds, the Renaissance and the Reform movements since 15th century. In West, the change created by this process has caused to the Enlightenment and modern era emerged as a result. However, the East has not realized the change that West comunity has experienced and continued to mantain the existing traditional structure, consequently reduced the colonial status. The Eastern intellectuals who disturbed from this situation, have tried to put forward the idea of occidentalism as a reaction from end of the 19th century. In this study, the concept of modernism placing at the center of the subject and then defination and classification is done.
