The purpose of this study is to examine the perspectives of parents of children with autism regarding problem behaviors, considering whether their children engage in sports. A total of 14 parents, including 8 women and 6 men, voluntarily participated in the study. Data were collected through interviews conducted via Zoom, using a semi-structured interview form designed based on a personal information form completed by the participants and feedback from six field experts. The data were analyzed using content analysis in MAXQDA 24 software. As a result of the analysis, 5 main themes, 25 sub-themes, and 163 codes were identified. It was determined that parents of children with autism who engage in sports reported a decrease in problem behaviors. It has been stated that children with autism who participate in sports show improvements in cognitive, physical, and social skills. Parents of children with autism who do not engage in sports reported the presence of problematic behaviors and deficiencies in cognitive, physical, and social skill development. They expressed that participation in sports could potentially reduce these problematic behaviors and lead to positive improvements in the aforementioned skills. In conclusion, it was determined that parents of children with autism who engage in sports report a reduction in their children’s problematic behaviors and improvements in their skills compared to parents of children with autism who do not participate in sports. It is recommended to increase the number of facilities that enable children with autism to participate in physical activities and sports free of charge. It is considered that experimental studies in this field would contribute more significantly to the literature.
