Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of university students' e-sports audience demands on e-sports participation motivations. The influence of technological advancements extends to various fields, including the realm of sports. One of the prominent innovations in recent times is Esports, which has emerged as a rapidly growing domain with a significant global market. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of Esports spectator demands on levels of participation motivation. The study investigates both the interrelationships between scales and various evaluations based on demographic characteristics. The sample group consists of 333 voluntary participants, including 136 females and 197 males, who are students of Gumushane University. The study utilizes 5 demographic items, the E-sports spectator demands scale comprising 25 items, and the Esports participation motivation scale consisting of 47 items. According to the research findings, a significant positive relationship between the two variables has been determined. Among the sub-dimensions of the Esports participation motivation scale, the variable with the highest mean is competition and achievement (x̄=3.50), while the lowest mean is associated with the taxonomic domain sub-dimension (x̄=3.39). In the Esports spectator demands scale, the variable with the highest mean is the chat room sub-dimension (x̄=4.59), whereas the lowest variable is the commentator characteristics sub-dimension.
