Abstract

This study aimed to examine the nutritional habits of adolescents participating in school sports. The research group consisted of 236 volunteer high school students (121 male, 115 female) from Igdır province during the 2023-2024 academic year. Data collection tools included a ‘Personal Information Form’ and the “Nutrition Scale for Adolescents. The study findings revealed no significant relationship between gender, age, dieting status, body weight, height, grade level, father’s education, income status, and the nutrition scale for adolescents. However, male students had higher mean scores on the nutrition scale than female students. Additionally, students aged 17 and above scored higher than those aged 14-16. It was observed that students who had never been on a diet had higher nutrition scores than those who had dieted before. Similarly, students who had not followed a diet in the last month scored higher than those who had. Interestingly, students from low-income backgrounds had higher mean nutrition scores than those from middle- and high-income families. In conclusion, while no significant difference was found between the research variables and the nutrition scale for adolescents, the overall nutritional habits of students were at a moderate level. Male students exhibited better nutrition scores than female students, and certain lifestyle factors, such as age, dieting history, and income status, influenced the results.
