Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to reveal the perceptions and competences of social studies teachers on social sciences curriculum, program integration of geography teaching objectives, place-based geography education. A qualitative research was conducted in this case study. The study group constitutes ten social studies teachers working in Efeler district of Aydın province. Semi-structured interview forms were used as the data collection tool and the obtained data were interpreted by inductive content analysis technique. According to the answers given by the participants, there are situations such as the fact that the objectives of geography teaching were not be realized in full and that the place-based education concept and its praxis were not known.
