Abstract

This research has been done to determine the metacognitive awareness levels of secondary school students who do individual sports and team sports with licence and the ones who don’t do any sports. In this study, which has been carried out by using the survey method, 246 students, who are being educated in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades at some secondary schools in Çankaya, Ankara in the spring term of 2012-2013 academic year, have participated, 87 of whom do team sports with a licence, 44 of whom do individual sports and 115 of whom don’t do sports actively. The data has been collected with the Individual Information Form that was developed by the researcher and with “ The Metacognitive Awareness Scale for Children- Form B “, which was developed by Sperling, Howard, Miller and Murpy (2002) and was transleted into Turkish by Karakelle and Saraç (2007). The data collected via the scale has been analysed in the SPSS packet statistics programme. The 0,05 level has been taken as the significance level for the comparisons. At the end of this research, a significant difference regarding whether they do sports has been found in favor of the students who do individual and team sports with a licence, whereas a significant difference in reference to gender between the metacognitive awareness levels of the girls and boys who do team and individual sports with a licence hasn’t been found. On the other hand, a significant diffirence between metacognitive awareness levels hasn’t been found according to the hours they do sports weekly, the sport they do kind of sport , and the number of years they have had their licence for .debates on abortion site nyc abortion clinics
