Abstract

CHP (Republican People's Party) ruled Turkey since declaration of the Republic until 14 May 1950. DP (Democratic Party), which was established on January 7, 1946, ended CHP's 27-year rule. Soon after its founding, this party succeeded in getting the support of the masses and came to power after the victory at the election on 14 May 1950. One of the aims of this study is to make an examination of various letters and telegrams sent to the Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, one of the founders of DP (Democrat Party), who symbolized power in Turkey from 1950 when the DP came to power until 1960, when it lost its power. In these letters, we will discuss what kind of topics and requests were expressed, what kind of wording was chosen, how the members and activities of DP's rival party CHP (Republican People's Party) were evaluated and reflections of belonging / loyalty to DP in these letters will be discussed. Another topic that this study focuses on is to catch some clues about the structure of Turkey by analyzing the anecdotes and some information in the letters and telegrams sent.
